The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, has assisted thousands of North Carolinians in purchasing homes. They offer an array of financing options to make buying a new home affordable. Their products include the NC Home Advantage Mortgage™, which offers down payment assistance up to 5% of the loan amount. And if you are a first-time home buyer or a military veteran, you may be able to boost your savings with a Mortgage Credit Certificate that can save you up to $2,000 on your income taxes every year!
If you've reviewed your options, run your numbers and believe now is the time to become a homeowner, we, Prime Real Estate Solutions, are one of their preferred real estate agents and work with one of their participating lenders - all trained on their mortgage products—who can help you find the home of your dreams using their financing options.
If you're thinking about buying a home but want to get informed before you do, we can help! Our new Home Buying Guide can help you understand the ins and outs of home buying so you can make the right decisions for you.
For both first-time and move-up home buyers, the NC Home Advantage Mortgage™ provides qualified individuals with stable, fixed-rate mortgages and down payment assistance up to 5% of the loan amount. Even better, repayment of the down payment is required only if you sell, refinance or transfer your home before year 15—the down payment assistance is forgiven at 20% per year starting at the end of year 11.
Are you buying a home in Cabarrus, Cumberland, Guilford, Johnston or Mecklenburg Counties? That home purchase might be more affordable than you thought! If you meet certain criteria, you may qualify for $15,000 in down payment help in the form of a deferred, forgivable, five-year loan at zero interest. This loan is forgiven at a rate of 20% per year each year that you stay in the home, and fully forgiven after year 5. See eligibility requirements below.
The $15,000 down payment assistance for first-time home buyers is funded through the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Hardest Hit Fund®. The five counties were selected based on a defined set of distressed housing market indicators and other criteria approved in cooperation with the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
If you are not purchasing a home in one of the five targeted counties or are not a first-time buyer, you still may be eligible for down payment help up to 5% of the home price—available statewide with the N.C. Home Advantage Mortgage™.
